Running Analysis

Are you experiencing pain during or after running?

Are you having nagging pain that’s preventing you from performing your best?

Do you get another injury after you recover from the previous injury, especially if you increase speed and/or distance?

Do you ever think that you’ll never PR again?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, it’s about time you take action to get the right help.

Whether you have been told that your body is not designed to run or you’re a Boston Marathon qualifier, I can help you perform your best!  Many of my clients have seen multiple trainers and healthcare providers such as orthopedic surgeons, sports medicine physicians, chiropractors, and physical therapists to treat the pain.  In most cases, simple musculoskeletal pain will resolve with rest or treatments such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or a cortisone injection.  Unfortunately, this type of treatment is only temporary.  As an endurance athlete, you are repeating the same motion over and over. When your form is slightly faulty, it is magnified with increased distance and speed.  This results in compensatory movement patterns from biomechanical inefficiencies and cause early onset fatigue and injuries.

There are two main reasons for poor running mechanics:

  1. Impairments in the body, such as limited range of motion/tight muscles and tendons, lack of strength, and coordination. These are prerequisites to be able to run efficiently.
  2. Surprisingly, most of us actually do not know how to run correctly. Running is a natural human movement.  Unfortunately, we lose this skill at a young age as we are forced to be sitting in front of an electronic device most of the day for work and entertainment.

To determine the cause of faulty running mechanics, our personalized Running Analysis includes the following:

  1. Review your goals, limitations, and past and/or current injuries
  2. Initial running analysis on treadmill with video
  3. Neuro-musculoskeletal physical examination
  4. Manual treatment for neuro-musculoskeletal impairments
  5. Recommendations based on initial running form and impairments
  6. Post treatment running analysis with modifications on the treadmill with video feedback
  7. Written program to address mechanics and impairments
  8. Follow up visits and video assessments to reinforce correct muscle memory and to advance treatment

During the running analysis, your body’s impairment limitations will be exposed. Followed by manual treatment and motor learning, you will immediately transform your running into an efficient and natural movement.  You will immediately notice the effortless feeling of running.   For the experienced runner, even subtle modifications will make huge differences in efficiency and ultimately reduceinjuries.
